New Beginnings | A Lakes Region Montessori

Greetings parents!

The classrooms are clean, the teachers are rested (mostly!), and we are ready for our kids!  Our 2012-13 school year is set to begin this Monday, August 27th!  New for this year....we are PEANUT-FREE.  Other nuts (including Almond butter and soy butter) are fine, just no peanuts.   We look forward to the start of the year!

2012 Graduation!

The day's details were fantastic! Children milled around handing out mints and flowers as guests arrived.  When all were there, the music began with selections from Music Together class.  The older children presented on a variety of topics from the planets to the Titanic to St. Kitts.  With caps on their heads, the children stepped up onto the podium and jumped off, celebrating their graduation!  Thank you to Miss Mary, Teachers Audrey and Emily, and, of course, Teacher Robyn for making it a memorable graduation!

Special Study

Dear parents of K and Pre-K students,

Graduation is approaching, and it is time for the students who are in Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten to choose a special study which they will present at our graduation ceremony on June 22nd.  All year, I choose what is studied; this time they will each choose their own topic and then present to all!  Your child should be permitted to research this topic at home, in the library, or with life experiences (such as zoos, science centers, etc.).  All information gathered needs to be returned to school for the formation of their presentations.  I request that it be returned to school no later than Monday, May 24th.  We will assemble and begin to practice the presentations to prepare for graduation.

a note from Teacher Robyn...

Spring has sprung at school, and we are abuzz with spring studies! We are studying the butterfly life cycle, the parts of the butterfly, and various leaf shapes. The children are also continuing their study of the human skeletal system, French objects that can be found around the classroom, and we are continuing our study of geometric solids.

Some announcements from the Director:

Re-enrollment packets for the next school year will be out by April 1st. Please have them back to me by May 1st. I will have an open house this spring; please spread the word!

Graduation is on Friday, June 22nd this year. In addition to a Music Together presentation, we will be singing three traditional graduation songs. Our Kindergartners and pre-Kindergartners will be doing a project presentation. They are researching a study of their choice and will share with the larger group on that day. Past projects have included such topics as Egypt, horses, buffalo, and Sasquatch. There will also be a potluck at the celebration. This event is the highlight of all our learning this year and tends to be well attended. We look forward to sharing this with you!

A few details:
Please bring home all winter clothes to help bring some order to our front entryway.
Please send your child with a labeled water bottle as the weather warms up. This should be taken home every night.
A reminder that June is a full pay month as we run on a 10 month schedule.

Game day on Friday was a hit! From oldies like Sorry and Monopoly to more modern games like Headbands, the children enjoyed a change of pace on Friday. Thank you for bringing in a great selection!
